1
Sift the flour, sugar, and baking powder into a large bowl, and rub in the diced butter, until you have a fine breadcrumb consistency.
2
Mix the dried fruit into the flour mixture.
3
Pre heat your oven to 180°C / 355°F / Gas mark 4.
4
Line a large baking tray with parchment.
5
Whisk the egg, milk, and vanilla extract together and add it to the dry ingredients.
6
Using a wooden spoon roughly mix it together until it becomes partly combined.
7
Tip it out onto your worktop, and using your hands bring it all together into quite a dry lumpy mass.
8
Dived the dough into 8 pieces, tear the pieces off, so they look quite rugged, place them on the baking tray, leaving plenty of room in between them, as they will double in size.
9
Get them into the preheated oven, and bake for 18 to 20 minutes.
10
Once done, use a fish slice to move them onto a wire rack to completely cool.
11
You can serve them as is, or drizzle melted chocolate and or icing/frosting over them, see video for an example.
12
Enjoy.
